Career Theories and Practices Class

SOCY 2071: Career Theories and Practices is a one-credit hour class offered during the Fall and Spring semesters. This course will focus on the study and application of career development theories. To assist students in gaining understanding of the world of work from a variety of perspectives to include the psychology, sociology, economics, and history of work and careers in American society. Associated with these academic principles, this course will assist students' own career development and career management skills.

The class is offered by Career Services and the Sociology Department.

Understand various career development theories and their origins.
Become acquainted with concepts of career planning, offering a systematic approach to life-long career decision making.
Understand the complex relationship between information about careers and the ways in which individual use that information.
Understand more about the acquisition of self-knowledge.
Understand cognitive processing related to problem solving and decision-making.
Understand how social and behavioral sciences contribute to the understanding of career planning and job development.
Articulate personal goals and action plans.
Begin to take an active role in the career planning process.
