Job Summary

In partnership with the Alumni Association at the University of Colorado Boulder, Career Services is seeking a new career counselor to help us meet the needs of our Forever Buffs alumni population. This individual will report to the Alumni Career Program Manager and will work closely with her to provide alumni support through one-on-one career counseling/coaching (in person, by phone or online) as well as through developing, coordinating, and delivering events, including webinars and teleconference.

Who We Are
The counseling group within Career Services includes professional counselors from many academic and theoretical backgrounds. Each counselor is a general practitioner with a specialization in different areas. We strive for an environment of mutual trust and support in order to offer creative, state-of-the-art career programming. To achieve that goal, we encourage professional development and engagement as well as collaboration within the office, on campus, and with the community.
Key Responsibilities

Individual and/or group counseling:
Provide individual and group career counseling for alumni. This includes 10-15 individual sessions per week, in person, by phone or Skype, as well as facilitating group sessions both in person and virtually as needed.
Percentage of time 60%

Program Development and Implementation:
Assist in developing and conducting workshops to meet the needs of alumni, including hiring speakers and presenters. Coordinate monthly webinar series.
Percentage of time 35%

Participate with Career Services staff on all special events and programming Percentage of time 5%

What we can offer:
Starting salary of $45,000-48,000, depending on experience.

What you should know:
Due to the nature of the client population, this individual must be available to work at least one evening per week on a regular basis and additional evenings as needed. In addition, this individual may be required to travel to other cities across the U.S. up to three times per year to partner with alumni chapters in provision of career services.

What We Require

  • Master's Degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education, or closely related field.
  • One year of career counseling experience working with adults of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Training in administering and interpreting career assessments, including values assessment, MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, and StrengthsQuest .
  • Demonstrated passion for working with and supporting the alumni population and developing programs and services to meet their needs.
  • Previous experience designing, coordinating, and presenting career workshops and events with excellent presentation/facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience in developing content for flyers, emails, and social media platforms.
  • Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Business and industry work experience.
  • Experience in provision of career services in a higher education setting.
  • Five or more years of experience working with adults in career transition as a career coach or career counselor in a business, private practice, or higher education setting.
  • Specific career counseling experience working with alumni at a college or university setting.
  • Experience using webinar and teleconference platforms to deliver workshops and programs.
  • MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory Certified and completion of StrengthsEducator training.
